John Adler - 3rd Congressional District in New Jersey

Ever since government programs helped him get through Harvard after a family health tragedy, John Adler has been dedicated to letting the government help people. After graduation Adler married his law school classmate Shelley Levitan, and in 1987 he was elected to the Cherry Hill Town Council. He has been committed to ethics reform, quality education and given his personal experience with a failed healthcare program, Adler has remained an outspoken advocate for providing health insurance to all families.
He wrote Cherry Hill's ethics ordinance during his time on Town Council. In 1991, Adler ran for State Senate against a long-time incumbent. In a bad year for Democrats in New Jersey, Adler was the only candidate to beat a Republican incumbent in either house of the Legislature. In 2008 he won a previously Republican seat in the House of Representatives

Mike Arcuri - 24th Congressional District in New York
Mike Arcuri served as the Oneida County District Attorney for 12 years before being elected to the House in 2008. During this time he relentlessly pursued crime, winning awards for work against both domestic violence and sexual assault from women's groups. As a D.A., Arcuri had a conviction rate over 85%, putting hundreds of sex offenders behind bars, and successfully convicting over 94% of felony drug arrests. Arcuri also earned the respect of his peers and was elected President of the New York State District Attorney's Association.
In Congress, Arcuri has fought hard to promote economic growth for Upstate. From his position on the Rules Committee, Arcuri was able to help major small business tax relief legislation pass the House, providing $1.3 billion in relief for small businesses and family farms. He also passed a bill to create a Northern Border Economic Development Commission to provide vital job creation and development resources to the Upstate region.
Arcuri has called for a "State of the Art Energy Policy" to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and a push for more renewable energy.

John Boccieri - 16th Congressional District in Ohio

A Major in the Air Force Reserve, Boccieri has served our nation in more than 40 countries and has 14 years of service in the U.S. Military. An aircraft commander aboard the C-130 Hercules, he recently deployed in four rotations in Iraq and Afghanistan in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. While in the military Boccieri also served in the Ohio state legislature.
When Boccieri won his House seat in 2008, he became the first Democrat to represent the 16th in 50 years.

Leonard Boswell - 3rd Congressional District in Iowa
Leonard Boswell is a veteran who served with distinction as an assault helicopter pilot in Vietnam.
He won two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Bronze Stars, the Soldier's Medal, and more awards. Returning home, Boswell became a farmer before winning election to Congress.

Bruce Braley - 1st Congressional District in Iowa Bruce Braley applied for his first job when he was in third grade and has been working ever since
He delivered newspapers, mowed yards, baled hay, detassled corn, did janitorial work, worked at a grain elevator, and dro.
ve a dump truck. To help put himself through college and law school, he built roads and bridges for the Poweshiek County Roads Department.
Braley practiced law for 23 years in Waterloo, representing people who lost their jobs due to corporate downsizing and employees who challenged dangerous safety standards.
Braley had never run for elected office prior to his election in 2006. Having spent his life outside the Washington bubble, Braley promises a new and interesting take on the country.
Braley is an advocate of reducing the United States' energy dependence on the Middle East and has campaigned on making Iowa "the Nation's alternative energy leader."

Chris Carney - 10th District in Pennsylvania

Chris Carney is a Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserve and served in the Pentagon after 9/11 as a senior terrorism and intelligence analyst. Carney worked hard to keep America safe. He grew up in rural Iowa, where he learned the value of hard honest work.
During his service to the country, which included serving in Operation: Enduring Freedom, Carney won the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three joint Service Achievement Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

Andre Carson - 7th Congressional District in Indiana
Carson's law enforcement background consists of nearly a full decade of public service. He has served as a Local Board Officer/Investigator for the Indiana State Excise Police for nine years, throughout Indiana. As our nation's growing concern for Homeland Security developed, Carson was detailed to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security's Intelligence Fusion Center. There he worked in an anti-terrorism unit to provide Indianapolis and all of Indiana with the security measures necessary for our physical safety.
At the same time, Carson served on the Indianapolis City Council, and in March 2008 won a special election to succeed his grandmother, Rep. Julia Carson, after her death.
Rep. Carson is the second Muslim to serve in the House.

Joe Courtney - 2nd Congressional District in Connecticut

Joe Donnelly - 2nd Congressional District in Indiana

Steve Driehaus - 1st Congressional District - Ohio
Before
Steve Driehaus ran for elected office he was a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Senegal. Driehaus served eight years in the Ohio House of Representatives, where he was chosen by his peers to serve as House Minority Whip in 2003. He took a leadership role on issues such as election law and redistricting reform, helping to ensure elections were fair. He was elected to the House in 2008.

Bill Foster - 14th Congressional District in Illinois
While working in the Fermi National Accelerator Labratory (Fermilab) Bill Foster discovered the top quark, the heaviest known form of matter, one of many discoveries Foster made during his extremely successful career as a physicist.
In 2007, Foster won the seat formerly held by former Speaker Dennis Hastert in one of the most closely watched special elections in more than a decade. His stunning victory was hailed by analysts across the country as a sign of the changing landscape of 2008. Foster was re-elected in November.

Gabrielle Giffords - 8th Congressional District in Arizona
Giffords is both a successful businesswoman and an accomplished legislator. 
Before being elected to the Arizona state legislature, Giffords was the CEO and President of El Campo Tire Warehouses, and later a managing partner at Giffords Capital Management. In the state legislature Giffords worked to increase both childcare and health care in the state. In addition she was awarded numerous accolades by the Sierra Club for her work protecting the environment.

John Hall - 19th Congressional District in New York
Before serving in Congress, Hall was a well known rock musician. He sung numerous hit songs, and was a member of the band Orleans. He won a longtime Republican seat in 2006, after several years of being a community activist.
In Congress he was one of two freshmen named to the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. Hall helped shepherd comprehensive energy legislation that reduces dependence on the Middle East, fights climate change and promotes research in alternative fuels, through the House.

Debbie Halvorson - 11th District in Illinois

Martin Heinrich - 1st Congressional District New Mexico<br

Paul Hodes - 2nd Congressional District in New Hampshire
Congressman Hodes has been devoted to community service throughout his career. He served as a New Hampshire State Councilor on the Arts, first appointed by then-governor Jeanne Shaheen. As Chairman of the Board of the Capitol Center for the Arts from 1990-1996 and then again as a member of the board from 2002-2006,
he helped lead the Concord community's efforts to create a premiere, award-winning performing arts institution.

Steve Kagen - 8th Congressional District in Wisconsin

Ann Kirkpatrick - 1st Congressional District in Arizona
Born and raised in the first district, the first words out of Ann Kirkpatrick's mouth were Apache.
In 1980, she became Coconino County's first female Deputy County Attorney, keeping criminals off the streets and bringing justice to the residents of Northern Arizona. Then Kirkpatrick served the people of Sedona as City Attorney. In 2004, she began teaching Business Law and Ethics at Coconino Community College. In November 2004, Kirkpatrick was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives. In 2008 Kirkpatrick was elected to the US House.
At the State Capitol, Kirkpatrick was a champion of fiscal accountability as she worked to protect taxpayers' dollars in her position as the Ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee. The mother of two college-age daughters, Kirkpatrick knows the roots of future success are found in a good education and has worked to improve the quality of education for all Arizona's youth through her service on the Education K-12 Committee.

Suzanne Kosmas - 24th Congressional District in Florida<br
Suzanne Kosmas has a lifetime's worth of experience in politics and service. She has worked to protect and educate children while in the statehouse.
Kosmas has also worked outside of government to help people.
Kosmas is a member of Coronado Methodist Church, where she recently served on a mission team assisting in construction of a pre-school in Guatemala. Southeast Volusia Habitat for Humanity recently recognized Kosmas for leadership in initiating the first "women build" home in New Smyrna Beach, constructed for a single mother with children.
Prior to being elected to the House, Kosmas was a four-term State Representative in New Smyrna Beach. Kosmas is also the owner of Prestige Properties, a real estate company located in New Smyrna Beach since 1979, and she is active in planning, development and exclusive marketing of an award-winning environmentally planned community in the area.
Republicans have begun targeting Kosmas with robocalls. Fortunately Kosmas is not taking their attacks lying down, and is working hard to defend herself.

Frank Kratovil - 1st Congressional District in Maryland
Across Kratovil's long career has been relentless in his pursuit of both justice and the public good. Kratovil began his law career with an appointment as a judicial law clerk for the Circuit Court of Prince George's County and then accepted a position as an Assistant State's Attorney in Prince George's County. In 1997 Kratovil was appointed Assistant State's Attorney in Queen Anne's County, and until 2001 served as the County's only full-time prosecutor and community prosecutor. In 2003, at the age of 34, he was elected State's Attorney for Queen Anne's County, becoming one of the youngest State's Attorneys in Maryland.
In June of 2005 Kratovil was elected President of the Maryland State's Attorney's Association, and in July of 2006 the state Court of Appeals appointed him to its Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure.

Dave Loebsack - 2nd Congressional District in Iowa
Dave Loebsack was born in Sioux City and was raised by a single mother. Times were tough for his family; Loebsack spent his childhood in poverty and relied on the support of his grandparents, teachers, friends, and mentors to find the strength to overcome personal hardships. With the encouragement he received, he was able to work hard, focus on school, and as a result, achieve the American Dream. Dave Loebsack is living proof of how community can make a difference in the lives of Iowans.

Betsy Markey - 4th Congressional District in Colorado 
Betsy Markey is the one of the founders of Syscom Services Inc, an Internet consulting and web site development firm. Syscom was rated 99th in the top 500 fastest growing American technology companies.
Betsy Markey worked for Sen. Ken Salazar as regional director for Eastern and Northern Colorado, the same district she now represents in Congress.
Markey also worked for the U.S. Dept of State where she developed develop training soft ware for the Office of Information Security System. She held top secret clearance during this time. For her success Betsy Markey was awarded the State Department's Meritorious Honor Award.

Jerry McNerney - 11th Congressional District in California 
Jerry McNerney brings a proud record of service to Congress. After graduating from West Point, and later receiving a PhD in Mathematics, McNerney worked for several years on national security programs at Kirtland Air Force Base.
After completing his work on the air base, McNerney spent the next two decades working in a variety of different positions in the renewable energy field, concentrating much of his efforts on expanding the production of clean, sustainable wind energy. Before being elected to Congress, he started a small business that manufactures wind turbines. It is estimated that his efforts may have saved the country the equivalent of approximately 30 million barrels gallons of oil, or 8.3 million tons of carbon dioxide - the main greenhouse gas.

Harry Mitchell - 5th Congressional District in Arizona
As the Mayor of Tempe, Harry Mitchell created thousands of jobs, increased mass transportation efforts, and worked with law enforcement to make Tempe's neighborhoods safe. He is well-known for his efforts to revive and revitalize Tempe's dying downtown area, and laying the foundation for Tempe Town Lake. Today, Tempe's downtown is one of Arizona's most successful business and entertainment hubs.
For eight years, Mitchell represented Tempe, Scottsdale and Ahwatukee in the Arizona State Senate. In the legislature, he was a powerful voice for Arizona's students - from those in kindergarten to those in college - and used his experience creating jobs to help become a leader in shaping Arizona's growing economy. Mitchell served as the Senate's Assistant Minority Leader and took pride in working hard behind the scenes to get the job done for his constituents. Chris Murphy - 5th Congressional District Connecticut
Before running for Congress, Chris Murphy spent years serving Connecticut in the state senate. As the Senate Chair of the legislature's Public Health Committee, Murphy was the General Assembly's acknowledged leader on health care issues. As Chairman, he steered the passage of an impressive array of landmark bills advancing public health, including the state's workplace smoking ban. Murphy also authored legislation that prohibits hospitals from engaging in overly aggressive collection practices against uninsured patients. Additionally, he authored bills that expand low-cost prescription drug access for the uninsured, establish new government powers to be utilized during a bioterrorism attack, and increase whistleblower protections for hospital employees. Chris Murphy also passed a bill that gave public funding to stem cell research.
Rep. Chris Murphy was elected to Congress in 2006 defeating 24-year incumbent Nancy Johnson. Johnson had previously proved to be a skilled campaigner and the election was one of the most brutal in the country. Working hard, Murphy managed to oust Johnson in a landslide.
Murphy spent his first term in Congress leading the fight against government corruption and has been a staunch advocate for the institution of an independent citizens' ethics panel to monitor Congress. He has also been a tireless worker for the environment and is co-chairman of the Congressional Land Conservation Caucus. He is a co-sponsor of the Safe Climate Act that seeks long term reductions in greenhouse gases and creates incentives for the commercialization of renewable energy.

Scott Murphy - 20th Congressional District in New York-- 
Scott Murphy has been lucky enough to live the American Dream. Growing up in a working class family, Murphy learned the importance of hard work.
After graduating from Harvard, Murphy became a high-tech entrepreneur. He founded Small World Software, later sold to iXL. Scott has also worked as an aide to two Democratic Governors, Mel Carnahan and Roger Wilson, serving as Wilson's Deputy Chief of Staff. Murphy was elected to Congress in a 2009 special election, where he continues to serve his district.
While other politicians just talk about the need to create jobs, Murphy has first-hand experience actually creating them. He's built successful companies, helped create over 1,000 jobs, and worked to make small businesses the economic engines of their communities.

Ed Perlmutter - 7th Congressional District in Colorado 
During his term in the Colorado Senate, Ed Perlmutter served as the Chair of the Bi-Partisan Renewable Energy Caucus, and was elected President Pro Tem of the Senate in 2001. His many successes in the legislature have earned him many awards. Including: Legal Aid Award for Equal Justice Under the Law, American Institute of Architecture award "Colorado Legislator of the Year, Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry award "Business Legislator of the Year," D.A.R.E. Tom Perriello - 5th Congressional District in Virginia---
Born and raised in the 5th district, Perriello served as a national security consultant, working in conflict zones such as Afghanistan, Darfur, Kosovo, and Liberia. His work with child soldiers, amputees, and local pro-democracy groups in Sierra Leone played a significant role in the peace and reconciliation process that ended the blood diamonds war in that country. Perriello was the Special Adviser and spokesperson for the International Prosecutor during the showdown that forced Liberian dictator Charles Taylor from power without firing a shot.
He has also founded a number of nonprofit organizations aimed at bringing together faith communities to fight for children's health care. They also supported a higher minimum wage, environmental stewardship, and responsible solutions in Iraq.

Gary Peters - 9th Congressional District in Michigan
The son of a WWII veteran, Gary Peters was 34 years old and a successful financial manager living in Oakland County when he raised his right hand and took the oath of an officer in the US Navy Reserve. Peters went on to train a s a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, a logistics officer, and a sharpshooter, and served part of his reserve duty in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch.
Following the terrorist attacks on September 11th, Peters signed back up for the Navy Reserve, and again served overseas in support of US operations. During his twelve years of service, he received numerous awards and citations, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
Gary Peters is a former state senator and Michigan Lottery Commissioner. Peters is also a political science professor at Central Michigan University. The district includes Pontiac and Auburn Hills, in the southeastern corner of the state.
While in the legislature Peters was named "Environmentalist of the Year" by a local Sierra Club chapter. He champions sustainable economic growth and calls for America's leadership in developing technologies to slow global warming.

Ciro Rodriguez - 23rd Congressional District in Texas

Carol Shea-Porter - 1st District in New Hampshire
Shea-Porter decided to run for Congress after serving for over a month as a volunteer in Katrina-ravaged New Orleans. She saw first-hand the inadequate response of the federal government
to meet the needs of citizens after this tragedy and decided that the voice of hard working families needed to be heard in Washington.
Shea-Porter worked her way through the University of New Hampshire, both undergrad and grad, by holding jobs in factories, hotels, and restaurants. She met her husband of 32 years while he was serving in the Army. He was stationed at an Army Medical Center during the Vietnam era, and she saw the terrible physical and psychological damage that war causes. She has carried that memory in her heart all of these years. She carries the sad knowledge from her father's generation that sometimes there is no option but war, and the wisdom from her generation that every other option must be pursued before force is used.
Active in local politics, she served as Chair of the Rochester City Democrats and Strafford County Coordinator for state representative races. During the 2004 Presidential primary, she volunteered and then worked for General Wesley Clark.

Zack Space - 18th Congressional District in Ohio

Dina Titus - 3rd Congressional District in Nevada
Dina Titus has dedicated her entire professional life to education and public service. She has taught American and Nevada government at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for 30 years. She represented the people of Senate District 7 in the Nevada Legislature since 1988, serving as the Democratic Minority Leader from 1993 - May 2008.
Developing renewable energy resources has been one of Dina's priorities in the legislature. She has successfully pushed legislation to establish a renewable portfolio standard requiring utility companies to acquire a certain percentage of green power. She championed creating a net metering program to allow individuals to generate their own power and sell the excess back to the utility companies, as well as green pricing options for consumers and tax incentives for companies that develop solar and wind energy generation. Dina also sponsored successful legislation to create an inventory and registry of companies in Nevada that emit greenhouse gases in preparation for a "cap and trade" program to reduce emissions and help offset effects of climate change.
She serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as the Education and Labor Committee and the Homeland Security Committee.

Tim Walz - 1st Congressional District in Minnesota

Peter Welch - At Large District in Vermont
Peter Welch has had a distinguished career as a legislative leader, lawyer, and advocate for the underrepresented. Among his top accomplishments as a Vermont state senator was the establishment of the Housing and Land Conservation Trust Fund,
which has financed the construction of hundreds of units of affordable housing and the conservation of thousands of acres of Vermont farm and forest land.
Welch was a partner in the firm of Welch, Graham & Manby, Windsor County's longest continuously run legal practice. During his career in law, Welch has performed a substantial amount of pro bono work, representing such clients as women denied insurance coverage for cancer treatment and employees whose health-care benefits were taken away. For his efforts in public service, Peter Welch received the President's Award from the Vermont Trial Lawyers' Association.
Welch serves on the Committee of Energy and Commerce, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.

John Yarmuth - 3rd Congressional District in Kentucky
