John Barrow- 12th Congressional District in Georgia

In 2004, Barrow became one of only two Democrats in the entire country to knock off an incumbent Republican, and he did it in a state that George W. Bush carried by 8 points.

As a redrawn district in the rural south, some Republicans will undoubtedly see the new 12th as an opportunity for a pick up, especially if the Democratic incumbent does not have the necessary resources to mount a vigorous and equally competitive campaign.

Nancy Boyda- 2nd Congressional District in Kansas

Congresswoman Nancy Boyda has represented Kansas' second congressional district since she unseated Republican incumbent Jim Ryun in 2006. Bruce Braley- 1st Congressional District in Iowa

Braley, an attorney from Waterloo, Iowa, had never run for elected office prior to his election in 2006.

Braley is an advocate of reducing the United States' energy dependence on the Middle East and has campaigned on making Iowa "the Nation's alternative energy leader."

Charlie Brown- 4th Congressional District in California

United States Air Force Lt. Colonel Charles Brown took on GOP Congressman John Doolittle in California's 4th District in 2006, and narrowly lost. Brown served his country in the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.

Doolittle is well-known for having one of the worst environmental records in Congress and has had strong ties to Jack Abramoff. Brown is again challenging him in 2008.

Charlie believes that investing in clean energy independence is a matter of national security.

Darcy Burner- 8th Congressional District in Washington

Raised in Nebraska in a military family and educated at Harvard, Darcy Burner holds appeal for all the voters in Washington's widely varied 8th Congressional District. She is a former Microsoft executive and was elected as leader of Hoppers, Microsoft's women's organization.

Burner has been endorsed by such organizations as NARAL, National Women's Political Caucus, HILLPAC, and numerous unions. In a recent letter to Vice President Dick Cheney, Burner described her love of Mount Rainier and Washington's determination to protect it from mining.

Chris Carney- 10th District in Pennsylvania

Chris Carney is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navel Reserve and served in the Pentagon after 9/11 as a senior terrorism and intelligence analyst. He grew up in rural Iowa, double majored in Environmental Science and US Diplomatic History in Cornell College in Iowa.

Carney is currently an Associate Professor at Penn State and is very interested in sustainable businesses.

In 2006, Chris Carney defeated GOP incumbent Donald Sherwood, a family values Republican who recently settled a several million dollar lawsuit with his former mistress.

Andre Carson- 7th Congressional District in Indiana

Andre Carson is the representative for Indiana's 7th congressional district. Congressman Carson was elected to office in March 2008 after a special election to determine who would succeed his grandmother Rep. Julia Carson after her death. During his short tenure in office, Carson has given his district a bold voice in Congress and has advocated energy independence by switching to corn and soy-based fuels. Rep. Joe Courtney- 2nd Congressional District in Connecticut

Rep. Courtney was elected to office in one of the closest fought battles in the 2006 election winning by the razor thin margin of 84 votes. Courtney sits on the Education and Labor Committee and Armed Services Committee. Robert Daskas- 3rd Congressional District in Nevada

Nevada prosecutor Robert Daskas is challenging incumbent GOP Representative Jon Porter in the state's Third Congressional District. The district represents a large portion of suburban Las Vegas, where Porter's 2006 victory came by a margin of 4,000 votes.

Attorney Joe Donnelly, a member of the Indiana Bar Association and American Bar Association, has served on the Indiana State Election Board and as President of his local School Board.

Brad Ellsworth- 8th Congressional District in Indiana

Brad Ellsworth was a popular Sheriff in the largest county in the district and ran an aggressive hard-hitting campaign in 2006. He defeated John Hostettler, who had one of the very worst environmental records and had been reelected with an extreme, right-wing fundamentalist Christian base and extremist platform.

Gabrielle Giffords - 8th Congressional District in Arizona

Giffords is a strong environmentalist with the legislative record to prove it. She earned a 100% rating from the League of Conservation Voters in 2005 while serving as an Arizona state senator, and the "most valuable player" award from the Sierra Club for going above and beyond to promote an environmental agenda. Both organizations endorsed her during her 2006 campaign.

Giffords, who was a Fulbright Scholar and former fellow at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, is the leading recipient of campaign donations in her race.

Kirsten Gillibrand- 20th Congressional District in New York

In 2006, Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand defeated four-term Republican incumbent John E. Sweeney in New York's 20th District.

Brian Higgins- 27th Congressional District in New York

Congressman Brian Higgins recaptured a swing district in upstate New York that had been held by a Republican for over a decade.

Higgins was appointed to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure as well as the Committee on Government Reform after his election to the 109th Congress.

Throughout his elected career, Higgins has tackled high profile projects across the district, and is known locally for his ability to bring all sides of an issue to the table to find consensus to get projects started and people working. He has been singled out as the leader in redeveloping Buffalo's Inner and Outer Harbor waterfront, areas that have been in a state of decay over the past 50 years.

Baron Hill- 9th Congressional District in Indiana

First elected to Congress in 1998, Congressman Baron Hill lost his seat last in 2004 by a mere 1,500 votes. Hill worked hard to successfully reclaim the congressional seat in 2006.

The southern Indiana district counts Indiana University in Bloomington, rural areas and increasing numbers of people moving from Cincinnati and Louisville, Ky., into the Indiana suburbs. This district and Indiana's neighboring 8th are among the nation's most closely watched races this year.

Paul Hodes- 2nd Congressional District in New Hampshire

Larry Kissell- 8th Congressional District in North Carolina

Kosmas is challenging GOP incumbent Tom Feeney, whom the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington labeled one of the 20 Most Corrupt Members of Congress in 2006. Nick Lampson- 22nd Congressional District in Texas

Rep. Nick Lampson was first elected to Congress in 1996 after beating incumbent Congressman Steve Stockman. A fierce proponent of manned space exploration and civilian service, Lampson served on the House Transportation Committee, where he pushed for increased air traffic and shipping safety.

Ashwin Madia- 3rd Congressional District in Minnesota

Ashwin Madia is a Minnesota attorney and Iraq War veteran running against GOP State Representative Erik Paulson in a race to succeed Congressman Ramstad. The district includes suburbs of Minneapolis and is considered one of the most competitive in the 2008 election.

Betsy Markey- 4th Congressional District in Colorado

Betsy Markey is challenging GOP Representative Marilyn Musgrave in Colorado's Fourth Congressional District. This district includes much of rural eastern Colorado as well as Fort Collins. Musgrave won reelection in 2006 by less than 6,000 votes. Markey has served in the federal government, and spent more than two years as a regional director for Senator Ken Salazar.

Betsy Markey lists tackling climate change as one of her top priorities. She supports expanded use of renewable energy sources, programs to reduce carbon emissions, and increased conservation efforts as well.

Eric Massa- 29th Congressional District in New York

Eric Massa is running against GOP incumbent Randy Kuhl in New York's 29th District, after coming within 6,000 votes of victory in 2006. This district features a portion of the Appalachian mountain range, in western New York.

Massa served for 24 years as an officer in the Navy, before retiring to successfully fight Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Walt Minnick- 1st Congressional District in Idaho

Walt Minnick is running to represent Idaho's 1st Congressional District. Harry Mitchell- 5th Congressional District in Arizona

Chris Murphy- 5th Congressional District Connecticut

Rep. Chris Murphy was first elected to Congress in 2006 defeating 24-year incumbent Nancy Johnson. Murphy has spent his first term in Congress leading the fight against government corruption and has been a staunch advocate for the institution of an independent citizens' ethics panel to monitor Congress. Mark Schauer- 7th Congressional District in Michigan

Mark Schauer is challenging GOP freshman Representative Tim Walberg in Michigan's 7th district. Walberg narrowly claimed the seat in 2006 and is considered a top target in 2008. The district includes a portion of Lansing and extends south to the border with Indiana and Ohio.

Heath Shuler- 11th Congressional District in North Carolina

Heath Shuler is a former NFL quarterback for the Washington Redskins. After his retirement from the NFL, Heath and his wife, Nikol, moved back to Knoxville where he created Heath Shuler Real Estate with his brother Benji. Heath also founded the Heath Shuler Foundation, which established a leadership program for middle school and high school students.

Zack Space won the seat held by Republican Bob Ney until his sudden retirement in early August 2006. Aided by Ney's reputation, Space handily defeated Republican Joy Padgett in the largest Democratic victory in a then Republican held seat in 2006.

Space, a lawyer and hotel developer who has served as Special Counsel to two former Ohio Attorney Generals, won the four-way Democratic primary with 39% of the vote.

Linda Stender- 7th Congressional District in New Jersey

Linda Stender, a graduate of American University and a New Jersey Assemblywoman since 2002, is an ardent supporter of the environment, gaining an endorsement from the Sierra Club for her 2006 race. She defeated her opponent, who had received $54,000 from indicted Congressman Tom DeLay and his Americans for a Republican Majority PAC during his congressional career, and is famous for having been assessed the largest fine in Federal Election Commission (FEC) history ($210,000).

Stender received a Sierra Club endorsement, and has a history of advancing environmental causes while serving as the New Jersey General Assembly's Environment and Solid Waste Committee's Vice Chairwoman.

Gary Trauner- Wyoming at-large

Gary Trauner is running for Wyoming's seat in the House against a to-be-named Republican to replace retiring Barbara Cubin. He challenged Cubin in 2006, and lost by about 1,000 votes in what was considered a safe seat for Republicans.

Trauner is an entrepreneur and is active in his community, serving on many public bodies. He is currently a member of the Open Range Committee of the Jackson Hole Land Trust, an organization devoted to preserving land integrity by working with landowners and utilizing market-based tools. He considers sustainable energy independence the issue of our time.

Mark Udall- U.S. Senate in Colorado

Mark Udall's distinguished career in public service began in 1997 in the Colorado State House. Peter Welch - At Large District in Vermont

Peter Welch has had a distinguished career as a legislative leader, lawyer, and advocate for the underrepresented. Among his top accomplishments as a Vermont state senator was the establishment of the Housing and Land Conservation Trust Fund, which has financed the construction of hundreds of units of affordable housing and the conservation of thousands of acres of Vermont farm and forest land.

Welch believes it is both a moral imperative and a practical necessity that our nation reduces our reliance on fossil fuels by improving our energy efficiency and making an aggressive transition to renewable energy sources.

Victoria Wells Wulsin- 2nd Congressional District in Ohio
